If your family or friends are concerned about your drinking and have mentioned it to you, you may want to think about the affect drinking is having on your life. Once other people start to notice, you may want to think about how much you really are drinking.
Forgetting what happened when your drink is another sign that you could become an alcoholic. Another thing is if you have missed any important engagements due to drinking or because of a hangover. If you are finding that it takes more alcohol than it used to, to achieve the desired effect your want from drinking, it could be a sign as well.
If you have tried to quit or cut down on your alcohol consumption but have found it difficult, you should consider finding some help or dual diagnosis treatment. Another thing is if you think drinking is the only way to have a good time or celebrate.
It is important to recognize the early signs of what could become alcoholism because the sooner the problems are dealt with the better. Avoiding becoming an alcoholic could be as simple as recognizing the signs.

This is a great list. I have been sober now for a little over four years, but a friend at work can’t seem to be able to celebrate anything without getting hosed. I remember when I was like that, but really, you can have fun (and remember it all!) if you stay sober.

It’s crazy how sudden it can happen too. I was just a social drinker through high school and college, and then bam. Drinking by myself, slipping alcohol in my fast food cups and drinking at work, etc. Alcohol is not a drug to take lightly.
