Cory Monteith dead at 31Glee star Cory Monteith died on Saturday 13 July, 2013 in Vancouver of unknown causes.  However he had a history of addiction and so speculation that this young man’s death, was addiction related, are rife.

**Update per the coroners report – Monteith died of a heroin and alcohol overdose.

Earlier this year on March 30, 2013 he voluntarily entered rehab for substance addiction. He was in rehab for a month and let friends and fans know via social sites that he was healthy and acknowledged their support.

However this spell in rehab was only the latest in a long spell of addiction. He dropped out of high school at the age of 16 as a result of alcohol and drug problems. He stated that he was “lucky to be alive” and had been using “everything and anything.”

Cory entered rehab for the first time at the age of 19. This was after an intervention by friends and family. This was not successful and he stated that he went back to old habits upon release.

Later in his young life he was involved in serious criminal activity to fund his addiction. To get away from the lifestyle (and to avoid prosecution) he moved away from his family, got a job as a roofer and studied acting. Eventually this led to Glee and his starring role as Finn Hudson.

His untimely death has come as a major shock to his family, co-stars and fans. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, 15 July, 2013.
