Alcohol abuse is one of the many forms of addiction which can alter a person’s mood or behavior. People might think that through drinking and getting intoxicated, they can escape from the harsh world and enjoy the illusion of freedom brought on by alcohol. Alcohol abuse can affect everyone, young or old, man or woman, rich or poor, popular or not. It does not come as a surprise why there are a lot of Hollywood stars who are reported to suffer from alcohol abuse and substance abuse. The percentage of Hollywood stars suffering from addiction is probably no different to the rest of the population. They simply have to play out their addiction in public so we are much more aware of it. However, recent reports that Amanda Bynes, hollywood child star is on downward spiral from an alcohol addiction problem was sad and disappointing.Growing up in the set of Nickelodeon, she entertained everyone with her quirky, funny antics and her charming smile. She was part of the hit show All That from Season 3 until Season 6 which ran from 1996 until 2000. In the year 1999 she was given her own show by the TV Network which is The Amanda Show and this lasted until 2002. Amanda Bynes was the voice behind Taffy the babysitter of the cartoon show Rugrats. My children loved the Amanda show. She even appeared in an episode of Blue’s Clues in 1998. As a Nickelodeon star during the 1990’s, Bynes was also one of the panelists in Nick’s game show Figure It Out.
From the success of her TV shows in Nickelodeon, Amanda Bynes went on to star in another TV series What I Like About You by The WB Television Network alongside Jenny Garth. This sitcom has been a success and aired from September 20, 2002 to March 24, 2006 producing a total of 86 episodes. Amanda has really nailed it when it comes to comic entertainment on TV. After her successful TV shows, she transitioned from TV star to a movie star. She first starred in the big hit movie Big Fat Liar in 2002. Then in 2003, she starred in her very first film What A Girl Wants where she plays an American young girl who seems to have everything in life. She went on to star in other romantic comedy films such as Love Wrecked in 2005. In this film she plays the role of Jenny Taylor, a huge fan of a rock star who will do everything to meet him in person. In 2006 Amanda Bynes has then another romantic comedy film; She’s The Man where she gets to play both genders on this movie. In the year 2007 Amanda Bynes has released two movies, the big hit musical film Hairspray and another romantic comedy film Sydney White. Amanda Bynes also starred in the movie Living Proof in 2008 and her last movie was released in 2010 which is Easy A alongside Emma Stone.
Amanda’s first sign of trouble was in the year 2010 where she tweeted that she will retire from acting to focus on other things. She has been in the news for this act, and was largely criticized for ranting it over Twitter rather than having her publicist handle it. In the same year, she tweeted another career change which is un-retiring from acting.
It has been two years since Amanda has had any shows or movies, but she is again the star of many tabloids and entertainment websites. Her downward spiral started in March 2012 where she had her first run in with the law. Cops pulled her over for talking on her phone while driving and before a police ticket has been completed, she took off. In the same month and year, a popular gossip website has a video footage of Amanda leaving a nightclub drunk, and this happened twice.
Amanda was first arrested on April 6, 2012 for sideswiping a car, not just a car but a police car. On April 10, 2012 she had a hit-and-run incident in the freeway. A few days later she runs over a curb while she is texting on her phone. In May 2012, she had another incident of hit-and-run.
Amanda might have thought that Twitter is a good to say she is not guilty, she tweeted to President Barrack Obama telling him she does not drink and she does not hit-and-run, she even asked the president to fire the cop who arrested her. Amanda Bynes DUI is sadly what she is now becoming famous for.September 2012 was the month that Amanda Bynes got her license suspended, caught driving with a suspended license and no headlights, and got her BMW car impounded. All these instances can really make anyone question what has happened to the quirky child star. Does she have any dreams of following the footsteps of other child stars gone wild, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, Eddie Munster?
Amanda Bynes is now regarded as a troubled star, and she needs help, now. However, she has isolated herself from her family and friends making it even more difficult to help her. Her constant denial of her alcohol abuse, and her refusal to accept help is not at all unusual whether you are a celebrity or not. . A few years back, she was on the Forbes richest under the age of 21. She has bagged several acting awards for her natural quirkiness and funny antics. If Amanda Bynes does not do anything to fix herself, she may just be another washed up child star who has gone wild and Hollywood may just have lost yet another good actress. I often wonder where Nicelodeon and Disney are in the fall of their child stars. Surely after so many child stars have gone in the same direction they should have on site counseling, mentoring and support for these children who make them so much money. Amanda’s story is another warning to parents who are thinking of allowing their children to go into showbusiness.
